Music

With her music for film, media, and live performance, Susan is a composer who embraces the traditional and whimsical alike—and really enjoys conducting to a click track.

Her scores include those for the short films Heartlight (Official Selection of the 2012 New Filmmakers NY Series, Anthology Film Archives), Vegetables (Official Selection of the Festival Internacional de Cortometraje de Bilbao/Zinebi 48 and the 2007 New European Film Festival), and Twinkletoes, and the independent feature film All in Theory. Additional commissions have included music for Story Worldwide/Byte Interactive, Untitled Pictures, the Jonathan Wilson children’s eBook William: Out for the Count, and others.

As a music supervisor and consultant for film and other media, she specializes in the areas of classical music, jazz, popular music (particularly from the late 19th century to 1940), world music, and classic rock. Her credits include the Go Babies video Alphabet Road: F is for Farm (winner of a 2003 Parents’ Choice Approval award), the WNET/Thirteen and Annenberg Foundation/Annenberg Learner The Power of Music “Music Mentor” interactive, and director Lisa Hammer’s feature film The Sisters Plotz, for which she also composed and arranged a portion of the score.

Susan’s arrangements appear in a variety of film scores, as well as collections such as the American Standards series from Cherry Lane Music Publishing, and have been performed live in various venues in the US. In 2002, the Brooklyn group Tutti Harps premiered her arrangements of Christmas carols for harp ensemble. Additionally, her MIDI work can be heard in the orchestrations for the Broadway tours of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Flower Drum Song.

A Writer and Publisher member of ASCAP, she is the recipient of eight ASCAPlus Awards.
